The asking price for Waikato homes has skyrocketed by 74 per cent in the past five years, information from Trade Me shows.
And one Hamilton real estate leader says a recent surge of first home buyers and lack of housing stock is pushing median sales prices to new hieghts.
Trade Me head of property Nigel Jeffries said the average asking price for Waikato houses has increased from $358,850 in 2014 to $623,650 in November 2019.
Asking prices for Hamilton properties alone had increased 9.7 per cent in the past year, reaching $649,100.
