Plans are under way to turn a former eastern Christchurch school into a residential housing development.
Council-owned development agency Development Christchurch (DCL) has bought the former Central New Brighton School site in New Brighton from the Ministry of Education for $1.2 million. The deal was settled on May 3.
The site, currently known as The Old School/Te Kura Tawhito, is being used as an arts and wellbeing-focused community centre. Current tenants have had their leases extended until May 2021, with DCL encouraging them to stay on site. Either party has the option to end the lease early, with a two-month notice period.
