For the first time since the earthquakes left it crippled and precarious, McLean’s Mansion is busy with human activity again.
The 118-year-old 53-room timber mansion – one of the world’s largest timber homes and regarded as a Christchurch treasure – is at last in the first stages of repair.
It was only a few months ago that a breakthrough in negotiations allowed the Manchester St building to be sold to a charitable trust planning to reopen it as a major attraction for tourists and locals.
