Kendra Wilkinson, famed for her role in reality TV shows from “Kendra on Top” to “The Girls Next Door” at the Playboy mansion, is now learning what it takes to succeed in real estate on her new Discovery+ series, “Kendra Sells Hollywood.”
In the show (premiering on Wednesday), Wilkinson documents her new career working at the premier real estate agency Douglas Elliman in Los Angeles. Curious to hear how it’s been going, we chatted with Wilkinson about what she’s learned, her biggest challenges, and her best advice for homebuyers and sellers entering this crazy market. She even divulged how her real estate ventures date to her time in the Playboy mansion!
Here’s more you’ll be surprised to know.
What’s the hardest part of being a real estate agent?
Starting off, just nailing your first deal—and it’s been a challenge! Celebrity definitely doesn’t help in this world of real estate, as I’ve discovered. It really takes learning the business and the real work and, you know, earning it. It’s not about just popping in and selling a home. People want to trust you with their biggest purchase of their lives, or their biggest sale.
It’s just very important to take this seriously, but enjoy yourself at the same time and make sure people are smiling.
What got you interested in pursuing a career in real estate?
I have been preparing for this job for a lot longer than just a year ago. I started working at 16; I was flipping pizzas. Then I went right into dental assisting. And then I hopped on into Hollywood and sold a bunch of things from books to shows to everything.
By the way, those few years living at the Playboy mansion, I actually invested in a few properties nobody really knew about. I actually always loved the real estate game. But now, I’m actually jumping into it as a business. You know, I should have done it a long time ago!
But it’s all about timing, and today, I’m in the business and it’s really exciting for me. I’m being trained by some of the best real estate agents in the entire world, and I couldn’t be more thankful. You’ll see that on my new show.
You’ll see the two major players; there’s kind of a battle between who I’m going to go with, and they have completely different styles. And then just getting to know some of the team of agents, it’s just been a blessing and they’ve been really helpful.
You know, everyone kind of has this idea that agents are just all cold—that’s not true. Everyone has a story, and everyone has a heart and a family to provide for. And that’s what you’re getting to see on my new show.
