Sellers are sabotaging their chances of offloading their properties due to home quirks, unrealistic prices, lacklustre presentation and a complete misunderstanding of the market.
As our real estate industry continues to bounce back strongly from the straitjacket of COVID-19 restrictions, some vendors continue to struggle to find buyers for their homes.
Realestate.com.au has compiled a list of the top 10 properties that have been on the market for the longest time in 2020, all of them listed in the first week of the year and all of them still up for grabs.
All these vendors want for Christmas is to sell their home.
A Brooklet address in northern NSW asking for $3.85 million is at No. 1 after being listed on January 1 – 332 days ago, alongside a Pottsville home selling without an agent nearby.
The list is dotted with homes statewide from Wentworth Falls to Woy Woy and western Sydney. The top 10 is rounded out by a five-bed Port Kembla home with a $2.2 million price tag.
Realestate.com.au chief economist Nerida Conisbee said there was often similar reasons why properties were proving difficult to sell.
“There could be something about them that doesn’t appeal to a wide range of buyers,” Ms Conisbee said.
“They also could be too expensive for their market and people may not be able to pay the price the vendor is wanting.
