Hutt Valley could be becoming a haven for real estate refugees being priced out of the Wellington housing market.
Lower Hutt real estate agent John Ross says about 25 per cent of houses sold last year have been to buyers from outside the city – the bulk of which have come from Wellington.
“We’ve never seen so many buyers coming from outside of Lower Hutt. What used to happen was Wellington buyers typically stopped at Petone. That was a big enough leap and that was it.”
