Construction has resumed at a downtown Wellington site for the new Indian High Commission.
The project stalled after the failure of Ebert Construction last August, but workers are now back on the site and officials told the Indian Weekender that they hoped it will be finished in early 2021.
The building, previously estimated to cost $30 million, would be a new home for India’s representatives who have been present in Wellington since the 1960s.
Recently appointed Indian High Commissioner Muktesh Pardeshi told the Weekender the building had been designed to reflect the image of India and would have room for conferences and concerts as well as offices.

Previous designs for the building showed a central atrium and metal and marble screens to soften the light. The current plans are thought to be very similar, with 12 apartments for staff, and a reception area for 300 people.
