The late Bruce McLaren was a Kiwi motoring legend – the New Zealand-born Formula One driver took on the world and won, and the McLaren team he founded remains in the Formula One championship today.

With much of his racing in the UK and Europe, it made sense for McLaren to have a base in England. A racing scholarship saw him on his way in 1958, with wife Patty, which is how McLaren later came to build this house in Surrey in the late 1960s – he named it “Muriwai” after his favourite Auckland beach and the location of his first winning hill climb at the age of 15.
