Wellington library

OPINION: I have always been a fan of Wellington’s libraries. As a child growing up in Brooklyn, the library was the go-to place every Friday night before buying the weekly fish and chips.

Since I have lived closer to town, the Central Library has not only provided books, but has also been a workroom, study area and meeting place. Alas, no more.

There has been much justified concern over the future of the building, but I’m also worried about access to books. I’m not sure people realise just how vast the Central Library collection is.

I’m lucky enough to be able to use the Victoria University Library, but even that massive collection doesn’t have some of the titles I accessed at Central.
