Professional footballer Israel Folau, known for his code-hopping prowess, recently divested two Brisbane properties at a marginal loss. This move followed his significant investment of $6.75 million in a new Brookfield estate with his wife, former netball star Maria.

Israel Folau looks to have said goodbye to Sydney

The impressive family residence, crafted by Shaun Lockyer Architects, graces a spacious 1-hectare plot on the outskirts of Brisbane, approximately 14 km west of the CBD. Boasting six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a raised pool overlooking the grounds, the dwelling also features a wine cellar, billiards room, media rooms, and a capacious six-car garage.

This architectural marvel was the result of a four-year building project undertaken by Caroline and Alan McCulloch, the duo behind the renowned women’s footwear label Frankie4. Initially listed with expectations of $7 million to $8 million, the property garnered over 10,000 online views within its first week on realestate.com.au.

Close to Folau’s previous $1.5 million Pullenvale acreage purchase, secured during his brief stint with the Southport Tigers rugby league team, this estate was recently sold for $1.9 million.

In addition to these transactions, Folau, who sat out the rugby union World Cup due to injury, parted ways with a waterfront Redcliffe building block for $4.2 million, a slight dip from the $4.25 million acquisition in 2022. He also offloaded a New Beith four-bedroom house for $1.26 million, slightly below the $1.28 million purchase price from the previous year.

Folau, now based in Japan, found greater success in the Sydney property market. The family’s 2-hectare Kenthurst estate, acquired for $2.1 million in 2015, was sold last year for $3,825,000. Similarly, a four-bedroom Stanhope Gardens home, purchased for $1,005,000 in 2015, recently changed hands for $1.7 million.

In a profitable move, Folau pocketed $1,625,000 in 2021 for a four-bedroom, four-bathroom Kellyville home, more than doubling the $773,000 investment made in 2010. Additionally, three side-by-side 290-square-meter building blocks in Austral, southwest Sydney, originally purchased for a combined $1.12 million in 2016, were sold in 2021—one for $480,000 and two for $490,000.
