An Aucklander who claimed quarter of a million dollars in benefits over nine years while owning a mortgage free house in Grey Lynn and a house in Paris has been jailed and had his appeal dismissed.

David Earle Harnett was jailed in February by Judge Pippa Sinclair to two years and four months in prison for committing benefit fraud over the course of nine years and 10 months.

He did this while he owned a free-hold house in Grey Lynn valued at $1.75 million and was the half-owner of a house in Paris, France, court documents showed.
