Waiheke Island’s picturesque airstrip is now back in Kiwi hands after Government officials ordered it be sold.

Promised plans for a luxury resort at the airfield never took off. Then tragedy struck last year with the death of the Dubai-based owner.

The Overseas Investment Office flexed its muscles, and now Stuff understands the airstrip was recently sold to locals with an island connection.
