Bankstown Labor MP Tania Mihailuk is seeking to bankrupt a south-west Sydney real estate agent and former council candidate over a legal bill totalling almost $115,000.

In 2018, the NSW Supreme Court ordered Rabie Chehade, of iGroup Real Estate, to pay Ms Mihailuk $114,521.65 in legal costs after he lost a defamation case against her in the District Court in 2015.

Mr Chehade ran as an independent candidate in September 2012 for election to Bankstown City Council, which has since merged with Canterbury Council.

In 2013 Mr Chehade launched defamation proceedings against Ms Mihailuk, a former mayor of Bankstown who has served as the local MP since 2011, for allegedly defaming him by urging voters outside polling booths at Bankstown West Public School not to support his election bid.
