Wellington Mayor Justin Lester is standing down from a company after opposing the liquor licence of a store for which he is one of the landlords.
Liquor outlet Bottle-O is wanting to open a shop at 5 Ganges Rd, Khandallah, but the level of opposition means the District Licensing Committee has moved its meeting on Tuesday to the Renouf Foyer of the Michael Fowler Centre to better handle the expected crowd of submitters.
Lester will be one of those submitting.
“I will be attending as mayor and saying we don’t need another bottle outlet,” he said.
