Perth socialite Rose Porteous and her luxury real estate expert husband William have just listed their mansion in the swanky suburb of Nedlands for sale, for $5.75 million.

The couple bought the Dalkeith Road house in 2019 for $4.4 million.

The property has an imposing white pillared portico, which agent Peter Robertson said set the tone for what buyers could find inside.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home also features a grand staircase, family room that spans the full width of the building, elevator, marble fireplace, butler’s pantry and a kitchen with appliances imported from France, capable of catering for large parties.

The house has the hallmarks of a miniature version of Porteous’ famous Gone With the Wind-style residence Prix d’Amour, the spectacularly showy plantation mansion Porteous built in Mosman Park when she was married to the late iron ore magnate Lang Hancock.

The mansion was demolished in 2006 and the large 8000-square metre site overlooking the Swan River was sold and subdivided into 10 lots.

Porteous, a former maid, married Hancock in 1985.

She rose to national attention after a protracted legal battle with Hancock’s daughter Gina Rinehart, the richest person in Australia, over the circumstances that led to Hancock’s death in 1992, and the distribution of his estate.

Less than three months after Hancock’s death, Porteous married for the fourth time, to Hancock’s long-time friend William Porteous.

Rose has also listed her two-storey property on Victoria Avenue, Claremont, for $4.3 million.
