A Melbourne property well known as the former home of Shane Warne has come onto the market.
The residence is one of many the late Australian icon bought and sold in Brighton, a suburb he was passionate about, owning a number of landmarks in the area over the course of his life.
However, with a prime beachfront position on a spacious corner block along Brighton’s prestigious Esplanade, the previous owners aren’t the only notable feature of the now immaculately renovated property.
“It speaks for itself, I don’t have to sell it, people walk in and instantly comment how lovely it is,” listing agent Ted Shackleton of Noel Jones Box Hill told Nine.com.au.
“Both the vendor and agents do not wish to discuss previous owners of the property out of sensitivity and respect. They do not wish for this to be the focus of the listing or associated with the sale.”
It’s been listed with a guide of $8 million to $8.8 million and was last sold in 2014 for $5.25 million, according to Domain Pricefinder data.
The luxury five-bed, three-bath home at 102 Esplanade has a lot going for it, having undergone a meticulous, sophisticated yet warm renovation under the current vendors.
“The actual footprint of the home hasn’t changed but it’s been a total restoration,” Shackleton said. “They tried very hard to compliment the original part of the house with a modern, streamlined look for today’s living.”
The contemporary European refresh beautifully integrates the home’s original features, including high decorative ceilings, classic panelling and leaded glass windows. Now, they’re enhanced by imported terrazzo flooring, a range of bespoke lighting, and high-end fixtures and fittings sourced from around the world.
Shackleton mentions the builder on the project has renovated and rebuilt some of Melbourne’s finest eateries and hotels.
“It’s very focussed on family living – even the child’s study with the two porthole windows – that used to be a bar area and the idea was to create an open area for children to study instead of hiding up in their bedrooms.”
Spanning two levels, the home offers a range of both formal and informal spaces for lounging, dining and entertaining.
The stunning kitchen features a marble bench, woodgrain cabinetry, Miele appliances, double Franke sink and a discreet butler’s pantry.
Outside, there’s a second built-in kitchen at the paved alfresco area – complete with Napoleon BBQ, sink and storage cupboards. The area extends to lush gardens and grass, then out to the pool.
Bedrooms are found upstairs to take in the uninterrupted ocean views, as well as a dedicated circular glass sitting room perfectly positioned to drink in the vistas across Port Phillip Bay.
Two of the bedrooms have private en suites and overlook the water, including the spacious master with its fully fitted walk-in robe and striking ensuite featuring deep freestanding soaker tub, wall-hung marble vanity and oversized walk-in shower.
Another special feature to the home is the circular drive and additional access in and out of the property via side streets – a real coup on the busy Esplanade.
Shackleton told Nine the property has only been listed for a week, but he’s received strong international and local interest, with a few ex-Melburnians considering a return home.
