Leaky home

There’s no sugarcoating the problems with this ’90s house for sale in Scenic Drive, Auckland — it has no Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) and it leaks.

But listing agent Iain Scott of Barfoot and Thompson, Swanson says while it is being sold “as is”, it’s still a stylish gem waiting to be rescued. It just needs someone with the skills to reveal its “potential glory” as envisaged when it was built in the early ’90s.

The current owners have owned it since the ’90s, before leaky homes had become an issue, and have lived for more than two decades with the ongoing effects of poor materials and a design ill-suited to the climate.

“The system used (in the construction) was guaranteed for 50 years, but it failed in 10,” says Scott. “The original design was probably not the best for the Waitakere Ranges, which gets plenty of rainfall.”
