A $130 million Palmerston North housing development has reached a major milestone with the completion of its first stage.

Wallace Development started construction on the Centennial Park subdivision last year and intends to create 130 sections for houses and apartments on the 10.5-hectare block on Centennial Drive, between the Hokowhitu Lagoon and the Manawatū River. Its first stage has created 28 sections ready for houses to be built.

Palmerston North mayor Grant Smith said the development would help ease demand in the city’s tight housing market and attract skilled professionals to the region.

“We’re well down in all areas [of housing supply], from emergency housing right up to the executive-level housing.”
