According to STUFF TVNZ presenter Matty McLean is now a married man, after tying the knot with his now-husband Ryan Teece in a ceremony at west Auckland’s Muriwai Beach on Saturday evening.
“MARRIED AS F…! I actually can’t quite put into words how incredible yesterday was – so many of our favourite people in one place to celebrate with us. Plenty more to come, but suffice it to say it was the best day of my life. Love you @ryanteece x,” Mclean said in an Instagram post.
“If you think you can’t top marrying your best man, do it on New Year’s Eve with all of your favourite people celebrating hard for you. What a bloody day!,” Teece said on his own Instagram post.
McLean and real estate agent Teece got engaged in February last year, when Teece proposed on the couple’s fifth anniversary.
“After five years of memories, on our anniversary, Ryan created a pretty amazing new one by asking me to marry him,” McLean shared on Twitter in February 2022, with an accompanying photo of the pair cracking open a bottle of champagne.
The pair first connected on dating app Tinder in 2015, but didn’t meet in person for almost two years, because shortly after connecting the TV presenter left the country and moved to London.
When McLean returned to New Zealand at the start of 2017 to take up the role of weatherman on Breakfast, Teece, a real estate agent, made a move.
“He sent me a message saying congratulations on the new job, so I quickly suggested we finally have that drink. Within half an hour, I’d jumped on a train and we met up at a pub at Sylvia Park mall of all places!” McLean told Woman’s Day.
The couple say “things moved really fast” from that point, and within a couple of months they were living together and had welcomed a dog Otis, a miniature schnauzer, into their family.
Last year the couple told Capsule that embracing their differences had helped their relationship thrive.
“We’re certainly not perfect – we fight and argue and stuff. Because we moved so quickly at the beginning, we had to figure each other out fast because we are quite different,” McLean explained.
