A Government department is looking into how and why a Tauranga subdivision development failed and whether there is a risk of similar failures occurring elsewhere.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) said on Monday that it would review several Tauranga City Council (TCC) building control activities, following the failure of the Bella Vista subdivision.
On March 9, 21 properties were evacuated from the development as Cyclone Hola approached Tauranga and the building site, and homes, were revealed to be unsafe.
Dangerous workmanship on the houses was discovered despite houses passing council inspections.
