Even McDonald’s is asking for a break on its rent.
In a letter to the fast food chain’s landlords, McDonald’s national real estate manager Warwick Stevens said the “unprecedented” Covid-19 lockdown had put significant financial pressures on the McDonald’s business, its franchisees and other stakeholders.
No takeaway or dine-in food services are allowed to operate for at least the next four weeks.
The chain has more than 160 restaurants around New Zealand, most of which are owned by individual franchisees. It started closing outlets on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday night’s lockdown.
