Michael Jordan’s Chicago mansion is making headlines again after sitting on the market for 12 years. The 61-year-old NBA legend’s home, currently listed for $14 million USD, has been for sale since 2012, according to the New York Post.

Earlier this year, a TikTok video by user @decayingmidwest showcased the abandoned seven-acre property in a state of disrepair. The video, which has recently resurfaced and gone viral, has drawn attention to the deteriorating condition of the Highland Park home. The property was originally listed for $29 million USD when it first hit the market.

The video reveals an indoor basketball court, complete with a Bulls logo, that appears to be flooded. The kitchen seems to be in the midst of an unfinished renovation, with cupboard doors on the floor and debris scattered throughout the room. Although the house still contains furniture, it’s clear that it hasn’t been occupied for years.

The challenges Jordan has faced in selling the property have been well-documented. In 2013, the asking price was reduced to $16 million USD. Despite its luxurious features—such as an Infinity-edge pool with an island, multiple lounges with large flatscreen TVs, built-in bars, a sprawling patio, and a card and cigar room—the mansion has struggled to attract a buyer.

Interest in the property did increase following the release of Jordan’s 2020 Netflix documentary, “The Last Dance.” Katherine Malkin of Compass told The Chicago Tribune in 2022 that there had been a renewed interest in the property, possibly due to the documentary.
In 2023, an 18-year-old man was arrested for attempting to break into the mansion. Despite the ongoing issues with the property, Jordan and his wife, Yvette Prieto, seem unbothered, spending their summer yachting around Europe.
According to Forbes, Jordan has an estimated net worth of $3.2 billion USD, largely due to the sale of his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets for $3 billion last year. Jordan also owns several other properties across the U.S., including a rental property in Utah, a penthouse in Chicago, and a lake house in North Carolina.
