Four years’ worth of smashed windows, damaged buildings and graffiti has cost New Zealand taxpayers more than $33 million.
And while schools are given funds to pay for repairs, hundreds have been forced to apply for extra after the accounts ran dry.
More than 380 schools were given a vandalism top-up grant between 2013 and 2016 – at a cost of $3.8m.
