A day after its establishment, a fundraiser aimed at supporting the family of the missing real estate agent, Yanfei Bao, has amassed nearly $20,000. The search for Bao entered a new phase when the Christchurch police, after being unable to locate her for over a week, escalated it to a homicide investigation.

Real estate agent’s disappearance has shocked and horrified the country

Yanfei Bao, 44 years old, disappeared while door-knocking in the Wigram area on July 19. A comprehensive search operation was launched by the police, involving over 40 personnel covering various regions of Christchurch, both by air and ground. The Halswell River and Lake Ellesmere search was temporarily suspended until water levels receded, as announced on Sunday.

On Saturday, a Givealittle page was created by Vani Liu, a close friend of Yanfei Bao, to assist in raising funds for Bao’s family. The missing woman’s parents were en route to New Zealand to meet with her partner and child. The donations collected would be extended to support Bao’s family during this challenging time.

Liu emphasized that Yanfei was not only a skilled professional but also a beloved partner to Paul, a cherished daughter, and a loving mother to her young child, Momo. The pain endured by her family, friends, and the community was unimaginable, and they sought to provide their help and support during this difficult period.

The search for Yanfei Bao continued throughout the weekend, with the focus now shifting to the central city area of Christchurch. On Friday, significant discoveries were reported at a Hornby property where she was last seen. It was confirmed that an open home had taken place at the property, which was up for sale, even after police had been alerted to Bao’s disappearance.

Due to safety concerns while on the job, real estate agents have expressed apprehension and have begun implementing necessary changes in their practices.
