Property sellers returned to the market in the first week of level three, listings website Realestate.co.nz says.

It has released data showing that, before New Zealand went into level 4, there were an average of 717 new listings on the site every day, across all listing types.

That dropped to 188 during the lockdown.

But in the first week of being back at level 3, daily listing numbers lifted to 508.

At the same time, there was an increase in buyer activity, and almost a quarter of all traffic on Realestate.co.nz in the first week of May was from offshore.

Most of that was from Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Realestate.co.nz spokeswoman Vanessa Taylor said the market had been affected by the pandemic but the growth in listings was encouraging.
