- The cost of the new Christchurch central library has risen to $95 million from an original budget of $60 million.
The project is under construction on the corner of Colombo and Gloucester streets in central Christchurch and is one of the anchor projects identified in the Government’s earthquake recovery plan.
The cost of the library has been inflated by the $2.2 million cost of decontaminating the asbestos-ridden site before construction, $2.3 million in inflation and $5.5 million to purchase the site from the Crown.
