A property wave looms as ANZ reports a surge in lending, Housing Minister Phil Twyford announces a new agency, and a supplies co-operative launches nationwide to shave thousands of dollars off the cost of a home.

“We are in the midst of one of the three biggest booms in new building consents that New Zealand has ever seen,” ANZ managing director for retail and business banking Antonia Watson said.”

In the year to September, lending for new builds grew at 9 per cent, outstripping growth for new loans for existing houses at 5 per cent.
