Seven years after council planners rejected a couple’s edgy house design to replace a heritage home destroyed in the quakes, they have new plans approved.
Brent and Ann Stanaway’s latest design for their prominent Lyttelton site is still modern, but more conservative than the one deemed unsuitable back in 2012.
Whether or not the project becomes a reality depends on the financials stacking up.
If built, the 12.4-metre tall, three-level build, on the corner of Oxford St and Sumner Rd, will include a coffee shop, bookstore, open-plan office space, and an apartment for residential or accommodation on the top floor.
