Auckland property market

OPINION: My partner and I don’t own a car and we are currently cutting down on our meat and dairy intake.

This change is keeping us fit, healthy, and has saved us enough money to get into the Auckland property market in our mid 20s on just one income.

We mainly rely on our bikes, and use ferries and trains for longer trips, but we’re certainly not stuck in Auckland all the time. We even rent electric cars for numerous skiing and tramping holidays every year.

Our favourite car, Tesla Model S, costs us $190 per day from Snap Rentals and is significantly lighter on the wallet in comparison to owning and keeping a car in Auckland – we pay a total of $0 on maintenance and energy for a 750km return trip to Ruapehu.
