OPINION: Auckland woman Bridie Campbell emailed media at the weekend claiming she was being “scammed” out of a $60,000 deposit she’d put down on an apartment she was purchasing off the plans.
As the story developed, it emerged that the real estate agent who sold her the apartment was her mother, and she had been given the opportunity to ask how likely it was that she’d be able to get a loan when the time came to settle – but chose not to.
City Sales founder Martin Dunn told Stuff that Campbell rang him earlier this year wanting to sell the apartment for a profit.
It was only when it became apparent that Auckland’s stalling housing market would not oblige, and she would be legally required to complete the deal she had gone unconditional on – without a mortgage to do so – that she raised a complaint.
