A racist rental advertisement has sparked outrage online.

The landlord was showing off their spare bedroom that was up for rent and stipulated that only “non-ethnic” people should apply.

The poster shared the advertisement in an Adelaide rental group online and has since copped heated backlash from angry house hunters who were shocked at the racist request.

The landlord said they were renting out a room in their house for $280 a week excluding utilities after their child had moved out of home.

The spare bedroom comes with a bed and spring mattress, a bookshelf, and a built in cupboard, however the ad stipulated that this was already being “used for storage” and therefore was off limits to tenants.

They had also said that they preferred a “quiet” and “non-disturbing” woman to rent the space, and that loud music and having guests over was prohibited.

But the most shocking aspect of the advertisement was the landlord’s preference to only have “non-ethnic” renters apply, due to alleged “bad experiences” in the past.

“With my daughter recently moving out, I have an available spare room that comes with the works,” the post read.

“Provided is a big beautiful bed with spring mattress, wood bookshelf and built in wardrobe. However this is already being used as storage and is NOT available for use.

“I am a lady living alone and would prefer a female tenant who is clean, tidy, quiet and non-disturbing, meaning NO loud music and NO friends over.

“I would also prefer non-ethnic people as I have had problems with them in the past.”

They went on to say that the tenant would be able to use the kitchen, bathroom and loungeroom, with bills split between them.

The post sparked controversy and was quickly inundated with comments from angry social media users, who called out the landlord’s racist request.

“Let me guess, the landlord is a 65 year old white Australian bogan,” one said.

“Who even thinks ‘no ethnics’ let alone post it publicly?”

“And people insist this country does not have a problem with racism,” another commented.

“No wonder the daughter moved out!”

“Imagine renting a room for $280 and not be able to use the cupboard or have friends over,” one added.
