Whitianga locals are putting their support behind a proposed resort to be built in the Whitianga Waterways development.

Plans for the hotel include 80 rooms on land and 26 over water, and a conference room that could cater up to 150 people.

Resource consent for was lodged with the Thames-Coromandel District Council last month, but Whitianga Waterways project manager Peter Abrahamson said ever since they had master planned the development, they had highlighted a spot for a resort hotel.
