Japanese fast food giant MOS Burger has announced that it will be closing all its Australian outlets by the end of August, marking a sad farewell for fans of the popular chain. The company currently operates three locations in southeast Queensland—Sunnybank, Southport, and Upper Mount Gravatt—but these will soon shut their doors.

In an Instagram post on Friday, MOS Burger shared the news with its Australian customers. “After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close all MOS Burger locations in Australia,” the statement read. “We are incredibly grateful for the support and love you’ve shown us over the years. Serving you and being part of your lives has been an honor, and we will always cherish the memories made together.”

The post continued with a heartfelt message: “Thank you for making MOS Burger a special place in Australia. We hope to continue spreading happiness and great food wherever the MOS Burger journey takes us next. Stay tuned for updates, and please visit us one last time before we say goodbye.”

An email was also sent to members of the chain’s loyalty club, advising them to redeem any remaining points before August 31.

Fans of the chain, which first opened its doors in Australia in Southport in 2011, expressed their sadness online. “I’m heartbroken… my study meal… I will miss you forever MOS Burger,” one customer commented. Another shared, “So sad!! Love iced tea as a bev option over sodas and your service is always 10/10. Thank you MOS.”

Known for its unique take on burgers, MOS Burger is a major player in Japan’s fast food scene, second only to McDonald’s. The chain’s name stands for Mountain, Ocean, Sun, symbolizing the brand’s commitment to quality and freshness. Founded in Tokyo in 1972, MOS Burger has since expanded across Asia, with outlets in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

As the Australian outlets prepare to close, dedicated customers are encouraged to visit one last time to enjoy their favorite meals before the brand bids farewell to Australia.
