An adventure park in Porirua is one step closer with resource consent for the $32 million backyard playground approved on Friday.
Heralded by Porirua Mayor Mike Tana as a “game-changer” in 2017, the park on the slopes of Te Rāhui o Rangituhi (Colonial Knob) would feature a gondola, a 1410 metre-long dual zip line, hiking trails, a surf simulator and two cafes.
An economic impact assessment had estimated a $9.6m injection to Porirua’s GDP each year, and the creation of around 171 jobs.
The zip line would be the longest in the Southern Hemisphere, according to Select Contracts NZ, who had applied for the resource consent last year.
