Marketplaces can reach people within seconds thanks to the internet, so it’s little wonder that millions of us shop online.

But would you go so far as to buy or sell a house on Facebook?

Social media and trading sites are seen by an increasing number of home owners as a way to avoid paying fees for real estate agents.

Others believe the technology gives them a better shot at buying properties when they hit the market.

Nevertheless, people in the housing industry have cautioned that selling privately was not without risk.
