Property Press NZ was always going to come under pressure during and post COVID-19.
With the magazine industry under real theat – Bauer Media’s Kiwi business was purchased by Australia’s Mercury Capital a couple of weeks ago.
Mercury Capital has bought Bauer Media Australia’s print and digital assets, which includes brands acquired by Bauer from Pacific Magazines and Bauer’s New Zealand mastheads – including Property Press NZ
Germany’s Bauer Media Group owns magazines, television channels and radio stations around the world.
The outcome for Property Press NZ – is that the Manawatu, Bay of Plenty and Wellington editions have been cancelled. All three of these markets had significant competition in terms of other property for sale magazines/ liftouts.
Property Press NZ is an iconic publication – with a very strong presence and brand awareness. We certainly do hope it survives. Our suggestion is that it needs to lift it’s digital game to offer both a print and digital option that is merely more than a digital edition of its print magazine.
