Property has emerged the clear winner behind the rising fortunes of Australia’s billionaires, with twice as many of the mega-rich on the latest Financial Review Rich List making their fortune from it than any other industry.
Of the 200 mega wealthy on the list 51 made their riches in the property sector, leaving retail a distant second with 22 rich listers, investment with 21, resources with 18 and financial services with 16.
