New Plymouth subdivision

Plans for a 110-home subdivision near a busy Taranaki road risk making an already dangerous traffic situation worse, residents fear.

The owners of rural land on the corner of Raleigh St and Johnston St in Waitara have applied to New Plymouth District Council for 11 hectares to be rezoned as residential and open space.

Hareb Investments Limited, which has held the site since 2016, hopes to later submit an application for a subdivision of up to 110 properties, as well as some natural reserve space, on the land, which is surrounded by rural and residential activities and currently used for maize cropping.
