But the Puhoi Hotel, commonly known as the Puhoi Pub, has to be in the top five – the heritage-listed hotel has been operating since 1879.
It has long been an institution for Aucklanders, because there’s nothing like heading up the coast for a beer and fish and chips at the pub. Sitting under one of the umbrellas opposite the river on a sunny Sunday is still “a thing”.
