According to ODT a vacant Queenstown section has been bought for $6.5 million, likely a record.

An undisclosed New Zealand buyer, who had looked for several years for the ultimate Wakatipu site, paid this sum for almost 3ha at the gated Forestlines Rise subdivision, off Moke Lake Rd and above Matakauri Lodge.

The subdivision is eight minutes’ drive from downtown Queenstown.

Ray White Queenstown agent Bas Smith, who brokered the deal with Aucklander Ross Hawkins, of Ray White Black Group Realty, said $6.5 million was “likely a record price for a single-dwelling, lifestyle-zoned site in Queenstown”.

The previous record was thought to be $4.86 million paid for a 1.337ha Jack’s Point section last September, he said.

Lot 7 at Forestlines Rise — one of 12 exclusive sections — “has long been talked of as the best of them”.

It had a flat 2000sqm building platform, “which can hold a significant dwelling or lodge”.
