PHOTO: BAYLEYS Pakatoa Island has been on the market for 25 years.
Hey, has anyone got a spare $40 million I could borrow? There’s an island I desperately want to buy.
It’s called Pakatoa and it sits like a jewel in Auckland’s sea green crown, between Waiheke and Chamberlins Island in the Hauraki Gulf, just a 75-minute boat ride from the city centre.
Owned by Kiwi businessman John Ramsay, of Crusader Meats fame, the island has been a resort, a party centre, a rehab retreat for alcoholic women and a private family get-away for the Ramsay family.
It’s also been on and off market for 25 years, according to the current agent, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why.
