THE Reserve Bank has hit uncharted territory keeping the official interest rate at a record low 1.5 per cent for the 22nd straight month – causing experts to question whether the RBA can move at all this year.

Borrowers can rejoice at the news that any hike to official rates “may still be months away”, according to RateCity spokeswoman Sally Tindall.

“If rates were to rise by 2 to 3 percentage points, then the majority of Australians with a mortgage would likely be facing a rate starting with a 6,” she said.
