According to new data from BizCover, Australians are showing the most interest in becoming real estate agents, surpassing all other job titles when it comes to online curiosity. The analysis, based on Google search data, highlights over 700 job titles containing the phrase “how to become” that were searched between August 2023 and July 2024. BizCover, an online business insurance provider, took into account not only search volume but also the geographical locations of these searches to paint a detailed picture of Australia’s career aspirations.

Despite the surge in interest in real estate careers, there remains consistent curiosity in skilled labour and trade positions, such as builders and mechanics, indicating that these industries still hold significant appeal. This trend suggests that while white-collar professions like real estate continue to attract attention, the demand for hands-on, skilled trades remains stable.

BizCover’s head of marketing, Sharon Kenny, commented on the findings, stating that they reflect the evolving career ambitions of Australians. “It’s fascinating to see how varied these interests are, ranging from the desire to enter the real estate industry to essential service roles like paramedics and pilots,” Kenny explained. The data underscores the dynamic nature of the job market, where aspirations shift between high-demand professional roles and traditional, hands-on trades that continue to be vital to the economy.

Kenny also noted that the steady interest in both sectors could be linked to broader social and economic factors, such as housing market fluctuations and the essential nature of trade and service jobs in an evolving workforce. The report highlights that Australians’ career searches mirror their diverse ambitions and the country’s changing economic landscape.
