Hamish Walker, the agent from Walker & Co, is enthusiastic about the possibilities for golf enthusiasts at the expansive property located at 508 Malaghans Road in Speargrass Flat, spanning over one hectare.
“The purpose of the competition is to highlight the various options and spaces available for potential buyers to create their own short golf holes,” Walker explained to OneRoof.
The property, nestled just below Coronet Peak, boasts a six-bedroom residence and is scheduled for a deadline sale closing on February 13. Walker revealed that the property, valued at $3.48 million, has attracted interest well beyond, currently standing at “north of $6 million.”
He shared the backstory of the current owners, who have cherished their three-decade tenure on the property, filled with memories of raising children, playing golf across the grounds, maintaining horses, and even hosting weddings for over 120 people.
“The indoor/outdoor area is exceptional, one of the best I’ve seen. It will be fully utilized during the open house on Saturday, with the seller hosting a barbecue,” Walker added.
The house, set against the backdrop of Coronet Peak, features a swimming pool, meticulously landscaped gardens, and interiors designed by renowned luxury designers Virginia Fisher and Sue Nauman. The property, designed by architect Fred van Brandenburg, offers a picturesque view of the surrounding scenery through double-height windows in the kitchen and dining room.
Queenstown, famous for its golf courses, boasts eight courses within a 20-minute drive from the town center. The Malaghans Road property is conveniently located just minutes away from two internationally acclaimed champion courses, The Hills and Millbrook, hosts of the New Zealand Golf Open.
The appeal of the district to golf enthusiasts is set to grow further with the recent announcement that The Hills course, owned by the Hill family, has entered a joint venture with US billionaire Ric Kayne and his business partner Jim Rohrstaff, known for their exclusive Tara Iti and Te Arai golf clubs near Mangawhai.
Walker, who recently closed a $5.5 million deal for a property in the Millbrook estate, emphasized the rising trend of golfers seeking to add small courses to their private properties in Queenstown.
Lyndon Smith of Tic Projects, known for installing premium golf courses, mentioned the growing interest in homeowners incorporating putting greens into their lawns. Whether a small chip-and-putt setup or a more elaborate design with multiple tees, homeowners are increasingly drawn to the idea.
Walker concluded by noting the robust summer real estate market in Queenstown, with heightened activity from both Australian and Auckland buyers. He highlighted the resurgence of confidence in the market after the post-election period, with deals over $5 million in the pipeline and a brisk demand in the $1 million to $2 million range.
