A Christchurch real estate boss has lost a court bid to make insurer Tower pay replacement value for damage to his waterfront house.
Hamish and Karen Doig’s appeal has been dismissed after a 2017 High Court ruling over the settlement on their Redcliffs house went against them.
The couple bought the quake-damaged property in as-is condition for $1.155 million in 2012. Hamish Doig is majority owner of commercial real estate firm Colliers in Christchurch.
The original hearing heard that the house came with insurance claims reassigned by the out-going owners, and the Doigs signed the sales agreement without taking legal advice.
