But real estate agents say there are a number of common mistakes that buyers and sellers make when they’re in the market – and it’s costing them.

At a minimum, sellers need to thoroughly clean and declutter – but many don’t.

“Different people naturally have different ideas on what they think is acceptable,” LJ Hooker real estate salesperson Karl Leathley says. “Think about how you can best present your property to the broadest possible buyer audience.”

He said while some people liked to have a lot of ornaments and other items on display, that could be off-putting if they just ended up covered in dust.
