My Coffee at Hornbrook delighted coffee lovers when it opened last year with views across Pegasus Bay to the Kaikōura ranges.

Perched on the Port Hills on Christchurch’s Summit Rd, above Mt Pleasant, the summer weekend cafe served mostly local walkers and passing cyclists.

Patrons sat outside on furniture made of wooden pallets and the menu offered coffee and homemade cake.

But this summer the gates will remain closed after owners Dmitri and Anna Rechkunov discovered they were operating outside Christchurch City Council rules.
