PHOTO: This house, designed by the late architect Rewi Thompson for his own use, created huge interest when it was listed 15 months ago. There were fears it might be demolished due to its abandoned state, but the new owners are restoring the property.
The Kohimarama, Auckland house built by late architect Rewi Thompson will not be demolished.
Listing agent Will Gluestein of Barfoot & Thompson says the buyers (a young couple who paid $707,000 for the abandoned property in December 2017) are renovating the house that had been so overgrown by trees and creepers it could not even be seen from above in drone shots.
Now that the land has been cleared, it’s easy to see the distinctive ziggurat shape of the house that created huge interest at the time of the sale.
