Two iconic South Auckland sports venues are exploring plans to develop or sell off land to save their futures. The moves raise questions about urban sprawl in semi-rural Pukekohe. Steve Kilgallon reports.
Pukekohe Park – 50km south of the Auckland CBD, home of an iconic motorsport track and a 100-year-old horse-racing circuit – is pursuing a plan to build on some of its outer land.
And right next door, the Franklin Trotting Club – a major training base for trotting horses, jockeys and trainers – is being considered for sale.
