A Darling Point penthouse has sold for $10,095,000, $1.5m over reserve, which is believed to be an online auction record.

The three-bedroom apartment at 1/21 Yarranabbe Road — owned by the late John Oakley — attracted six registered parties with all of them participating.

“It just goes to show online auctions have’t stopped people’s appetite for quality real estate,” the sales agent, Ist City co-principal Julian Hasemer, said.

With auctioneer Jake Moore presiding at Damien Cooley’s Double Bay rooms on Tuesday night, bidding opened at $7m and rose in $100,000 increments to $9.5m.

The bids then dropped to $10,000s, with the local empty-nester purchaser securing the property with a $5000 bid.
